Kennedy Space Center and Hurricane Milton

Kennedy Space Center and Hurricane Milton

Hi everyone. Lots of people have messaged us to ask about the impending Hurricane that’s forecast to hit Florida this week. We seem to have a knack for being in Orlando when these big hurricanes come in, last time (Oct 2022) we got stuck in our hotel for 2 days which was annoying as it cut in to our 2 week holiday and we had to miss a couple of days at the theme parks. This time we at least have the option to stay at home, and even watch the darts that’s on this week!

They’re forecasting very high winds and flood risks on the west coast where the hurricane hits land, but we are a long way in-land in Orlando and if it’s anything like last time, we can expect heavy non-stop rain and stormy weather for a couple of days here. We should be safe here thankfully, and I’m glad we’re not out on the west coast at the moment – although we are supposed to be there at end of Nov for a week, so we will have to hope it’s not too impacted.

The weather was rubbish yesterday, rained most of the day which we thought was a sign that the storm was coming in, although it’s dried up a bit today which is weird. Although a lot of places are shutting up now for a couple of days, including our pools and stuff.

Yesterday we did manage to get out to Kennedy Space Center though which was excellent. We’d booked to go on Monday as there was a scheduled SpaceX rocket launch in the morning (10.52am).

Amazingly that still took off, and we managed to see it a bit before it got lost in the heavy cloud cover, and certainly heard and felt it even though you watch from about 6 miles away.

You can see how crap the weather was yesterday in these pics! Warm still, but we needed rain coats.

The space centre itself was very good too, loads of exhibitions, shows, rides, bus tours etc. We had a full day there as planned, only getting rained on a bit walking between the car and the main buildings.

We’ll post some more updates and pics at the weekend once the storm has passed and we’ve actually been able to go out and do something again!

  1. Rats, my covers been blown! I guess when I tell people “It’s not rocket science” they’ll have to take my word for it

Looks amazing though, must have been incredible seeing an actual launch too. Fingers crossed the weather stays alright where you are.

  2. Looks amazing – can you confirm that the moon rock had a cheese like texture? Glad you’re out of the eye of the storm at least!

    1. It wa a a very smooth cheese texture. Like a fine cheddar. Yeah storm has passed now thank god and back to hot sunny weather
