Took a day trip to Daytona Beach the other day. It’s about a 1.5hr drive from where we are but as our planned week in Tampa is now off the cards (Airbnb property we were due to stay in had too much storm damage so we had to cancel) we wanted to still get a few beach days in.

After walking down the beach for a few miles we came across a Landshark beach bar. For those who don’t know Landshark is one of my favourite beers. You can’t get it in the UK so I have to rely on drinking it on holiday, so the bar was a great find.

We stopped for lunch at a taproom we’d previously seen featured on Man Vs Food as having great smash burgers. They did not disappoint and ever since our trip I have been calling it one of the best burgers I’d ever had. They also had an amazing selection of beer too and it was a shame we couldn’t stick around for too long, and that one of us had to drive home.

Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse

Another highlight of the day was our time at Ponce Inlet, which is a small area in the Daytona area. We wanted to visit the famous lighthouse, which is the tallest lighthouse in Florida, and one of the tallest in the US. It is 175 feet in height and it takes 203 steps to reach the top. We didn’t really consider just how tiring it would be to walk up or how high up you felt when you got there. It was super windy at the top too and as the space at the top was pretty narrow, it’s safe to say we didn’t really hang around up there too long.

So all in all it was a great day at Daytona, it’s just a shame it wasn’t a bit nearer to where we are staying. A 1.5hr drive is probably a bit to far to go for another burger…we are tempted though!
