Day 2 in Capitol Reef

This post is coming quite soon after Lucy’s one covering our trip to Capitol Reef and day 1 in the park, so don’t miss that one here.
It’s definitely a lot colder here in Capitol Reef, and today was the first day of our whole trip I think where it wasn’t a clear blue sky and sun all day, so we felt the cold when we were out hiking. Cloudy and a bit windy still, but not too bad once you get climbing up steep trails!
- Total distance hiked = 5.92 miles
- Elevation change = 670 feet
Cassidy Arch

We did one long “strenuous” (as it is classified) hike up to see Cassidy Arch, a steep climb up but some brilliant views from the top, and of the arch itself.

Scenic Drive

Afterwards we did the scenic drive down the main part of the National Park which takes about an hour round trip, then stopped to do a couple of other short walks at the end which were labelled ‘Sunset Point’ and ‘Goosenecks’. they were only short hikes but some brilliant views anyway.
Sunset Point

This was to help keep our face warm 🙂
Goosenecks

We are moving on tomorrow to Moab, where we have two National Parks in close proximity – Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. Moab is a bit more of a town than where we’ve been in the last week which have been more quiet and remote, so we’re also looking forward to more choice for food and drinks. Our hotel is over the road from a BBQ place, and the Moab Microbrewery so I imagine we will be in there a fair bit.

Great pic of Si on Cassidy Arch but disappointed there are no shots of pumas (mountain lions), in the distance of course. Stay warm.
