Today we decided to get up early at around 6.45am to go and watch the sunrise from our local beach. It was a bit of an early start but worth it, right opposite our Airbnb so we quickly grabbed our beach chairs and walked over after the alarm went off.

That same day we had booked on to one of Hawaii’s most popular excursions, a “mounting tubing” trip which takes you down a former irrigation system of the Līhuʻe Plantation. They take you up to the start via a safari-style truck which takes around 30 mins to get there, with the tour guide telling you all about the area and experience coming up. The trip down lasts for around an hour and covers 2.5 miles. You go through 5 different tunnels dug in to the mountains, several “rapids” sections and then end up in a lazy river section at the bottom.

Some sections were pretty fast and you ended up spinning around a lot, bumping in to other people and the walls, but it was great fun.

Afterwards they take you to a picnic area for lunch before heading back to the start. All in all it lasted around 3 hours but was a brilliant and fun day out and a really unique experience.

After the tubing adventure we drove down to the South coast of the island to an area called Poipu, where we hiked along the coastal path starting at ‘Shipwreck Beach’, passing a lovely looking golf club (no Mini golf sadly!) and ending up at another beach about 3 miles away.

It was a hot afternoon so by the time we reached the other end, we were ready to head back and try and get home in time for a later afternoon swim at our pool and of course, a beer!
