Arriving on Maui

Arriving on Maui

We arrived on our 4th (and final island stop in Hawai’i) yesterday so there is not much to report so far, therefore this is just a brief update.

Again, we had a very short flight from the Big Island to here which took all of about 25 minutes in the air. The descent was pretty bumpy due to the windy conditions (which resulted in some passengers personal items hurtling down the aisle!) but aside from this, it was another straightforward flight.

After we landed we had to get a quaint tram to the car rental area, which we thought was very Disney-esque!

Once we’d picked up our car we headed to our Airbnb apartment. It was really windy, and the roads felt busier than Kaua’i and Big Island. It is the second largest of the main islands (after Big Island), and the second most popular one for tourists (after Oah’u) so this wasn’t a surprise.

Here are a few pictures of our apartment, and of the pool, which again I was happy to note was very nearby. We back onto it in fact so it is literally a 10 second walk. It also a stones throw to the beach which we will go to in the coming days.

Our first full day consisted of a beach-side walk along the coast, followed by shopping at the local mall. Then we spent late afternoon by the pool before going out for dinner.

The 3-mile coastal walk was the ‘Wailea oceanfront boardwalk trail’ which took you on an easy coastal path along the beachfront resort district. The trail does not traverse the beach itself, it sits just above the sand. It has great views and you pass five beaches and lots of luxury hotels and resorts.

One of the hotels even had a small chapel in the grounds…we assume for weddings.

After the walk we wandered along the beach itself before heading to the shops.

After wiling away a few hours by the pool we opted to go for dinner at the ‘Cool Cat Cafe’. This is a diner which we saw featured on the TV show Man v Food and is known for it’s epic burgers, so, when in Rome…

Anyway, sorry this was brief. We are heading to Haleakala National Park for the day tomorrow so more to report soon.

  1. Wouldn’t have liked the flight. Hardly straightforward! But looks like an amazing location. Very picturesque.
