Driving to Whistler via Horseshoe Bay, Shannon Falls and Brandywine Falls

This post comes very soon after our last post from Day 3 in Vancouver, so if you missed that you can find it here.

Today we left Vancouver after a busy 3 days around the city to move on to our next destination which is Whistler, up in the mountains. On the drive there we stopped at various different places which were along the route.

We made a quick stop by the ‘Murdo Frazer cabin’ which probably won’t mean much to many of you, but was used in the Netflix show ‘Virgin River’ as Mel’s cabin apparently. I don’t watch the show, but Lucy does 🙂

We stopped then at Horseshoe Bay, a very small little village on the coast which is mainly used as the ferry port to get across to the various islands in the area, including the main Vancouver Island. The town itself was quiet and pretty nice for a quick wander around but there were massive queues of cars for the ferry terminal nearby.

Next stop was the very impressive ‘Shannon Falls’, a short 10 minute walk from where you park the car to see the falls at the lookout point.

This sums up the Canadian sentiment towards the US right now I think….

Another quick stop en route at ‘The Watershed Grill’, another location featured in Virgin River as Jack’s bar.

Next up was the equally impressive Brandywine Falls, a really nice lookout point with only a short 20 mins walk needed to get there from the car park.

We eventually arrived in Whistler at around 2.30pm. It’s a really nice small village, normally used as a ski destination with loads of lodges and hotels but at this time of year there’s no snow at all, so all the slopes are clear and ski lifts not operating. There’s lots going on though with loads of bars, shops, restaurants and outdoor activities to do around the area. Definitely has the feel of a mountain resort area.

Our Airbnb is really nice too, we’re here for 3 nights and have plenty of plans for the next few days.

More updates to come soon from our time in Whistler
