Our Last Day in Vancouver, the Botanical Gardens and Main Street
Ouch, my legs….only kidding, although it was a very tough uphill climb the day before at the Grouse Grind, we decided it would be a “good” idea to go on another long walk around Vancouver city yesterday on our last day there. We caught the Sky Train in to town and started by visiting the VanDusen Botanical Gardens, a really nice area to wander around a little outside of the downtown area.

They had loads of different areas to wander around, including a nice waterfalls, some totem poles, redwood trees, and even a small hedge maze – we didn’t get lost.

After the botanical gardens we walked through Queen Elizabeth park to Main Street and followed that up past a load of shops and bars towards downtown Vancouver.

We stopped of course for a quick coffee and doughnut (sorry, “donut” as they spell it over here) at a popular place called ’49th Parallel Café & Lucky’s Doughnuts’, mainly to give our aching legs a rest. Doughnuts were good, but not as good as Lee’s Doughnuts we had a couple of days before. I think we’ve had too many doughnuts already, they’re everywhere! Ah well.

There were a load of different murals painted on various buildings on Main Street as well to check out on our walk down:

Then we continued up towards the waterfront area and what was the Olympic Village when Vancouver hosted the Olympics back in 2010. We found a really nice large craft beer pub here with a good happy hour and a massive beer selection, so that signalled the end of our walking tour for the day.

I was going to add all the stuff from our travel day today (Friday) as well, but it will probably be too long, so keep an eye out for a separate new post about our drive to Whistler (where we arrived today) very soon.
