Nos premiers jours à Québec

Nos premiers jours à Québec

We are now in Quebec City, although it feels like we are in France such is the language the majority of people are speaking here – hence the blog post title which I thought I would translate into French for those who know French. It is very much what I imagine walking around the streets of Paris would be like such as cobbled streets, cafes with bright awnings and lots of quirky shops and galleries. Can you recognise what film the…

Grand Falls, Edmunston Botanical Gardens and a Closely-Fought Pool Tournament

Grand Falls, Edmunston Botanical Gardens and a Closely-Fought Pool Tournament

After a few days in Moncton, we broke up the long journey to Quebec City with a couple of nights stay in a place called Grand Falls. As the name suggests there is a large waterfalls here but as we arrived quite late in the afternoon we checked in at our motel (weird to not be in an Airbnb now!) and then headed out to a local pizza place for some food, before tracking down the only brewery in town….

Moncton and Kouchibouguac National Park

Moncton and Kouchibouguac National Park

After we left Halifax in Nova Scotia we headed inland and made our way to Moncton. The reason we chose this town was for its proximity to Kouchibouguac National Park which is about an hour away from Moncton. The drive was fine and the only thing of note was what we saw at one of the gas stations we stopped at, which was a ‘Bark Park’, a designated area for you to take your dogs, which made us think of…

Our Last Few Days in Halifax, Nova Scotia

Our Last Few Days in Halifax, Nova Scotia

We’ve spent the last 3 days in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the most easterly point of our Canadian trip. We had a pretty long 4 hour drive from our previous stop in Saint John to get here, but we had 3 full days to look around the area while we were here. On the way we made a brief stop at Rockwood State Park on the way out of Saint John which was a lovely park with a large lake and…

The Moosehead Factory and Saint John

The Moosehead Factory and Saint John

We returned to Canada a few days ago having really enjoyed our time in Maine and NE USA. Our first stop has been in Saint John, New Brunswick, famous for its Moosehead beer. We first sampled Moosehead when we visited Canada 13 years ago whilst on honeymoon and we had not forgotten it. You can buy the lager in the UK (online) but you can’t get their other beers so we were keen to get to the brewery…and we didn’t…

Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park

We’ve spent the last couple of days in Acadia National Park as we make our way up the North East coast of the US and back towards Eastern Canada. We took a fairly scenic drive along the coast to get here from Portland, via some nice fishing villages and with a nice stop by a lake for lunch. Acadia National Park is spread out over quite a large area as you can see from the map above. We’re staying over…

Buggying take 2

Buggying take 2

On our first full day in Portland we decided to rent buggies and explore Peaks Island. Unlike the 4×4 off-road vehicle we had in Whistler, these were a lot more leisurely and were in the form of golf carts like you would use on a golf course. Neither of us had ever driven a golf cart before but we figured how hard could it be. We had to take a ferry from Portland to the island, which took about 15…

Our Last Day in Boston and Arrival in Portland

Our Last Day in Boston and Arrival in Portland

We had quite a busy last day in Boston before we moved on to our next stop, which is where we are now, in Portland (Maine, not Portland Oregon). On our last day in Boston we went on a student-led historical tour of the Harvard University campus. It was an interesting hour-long tour around the campus, hearing the history of various buildings and the university as a whole, and getting to learn more about the whole place. Our guide was…

Welcome to Boston

Welcome to Boston

After the stampede we had a quiet day on our final day in Calgary, only venturing out in the afternoon to watch the new Jurassic Park movie (which was excellent) and get some dinner. Jerry enjoyed the cinema. Our flight to Boston was very quick and easy, taking about 4.5hrs, although despite it being a morning flight (and thanks to a 2hr time difference) it was still nearly 8pm before we made it to our Airbnb in Boston.  We have…

Our Western Canada Highlights

Our Western Canada Highlights

We did this on our last trip, and we thought it would be fun to try and do the same for each portion of our Canada trip too this time. Based on a defined list of categories, we’ve each independently thought of our highlights for our time in Western Canada. Some of them may end up being the same, but let’s see. Si’s Picks Best stop It’s a close call between Whistler and Banff but I think I’m going to…
