The Road to Zion
We left Las Vegas on Friday (10th) to start our long road-trip round the national parks in the South West of the States. First stop is Zion National Park where we are staying for 4 nights, although we took a scenic route to get there to stop at various state parks and places to see. Passed through 3 States (Nevada, Arizona and Utah) to get here and lost an hour with a time zone change.
Here’s a map of the trip we took:

Lake Mead Recreation Area

This wasn’t far outside Vegas, but was a nice scenic drive with a few stops we made along the way for pics at Red Rocks and then Echo Bay. We drove from there to the ‘Valley of Fire’ state park…
Valley of Fire
Here’s a few from our first couple of stops here, at ‘Lone Rock’ and ‘Seven Sisters’:

Then we went to ‘Atlatl rock’ where there were some 4000 year old petroglyphs you had to climb some steps up to see – according to the sign, an ‘atlatl’ is a dart thrower. I can relate 🙂
We also then went to ‘Arch Rock’, pretty obvious which pic that is below…

Then we drove on to ‘Rainbow Vista’

…and then ‘Fire Canyon’

Arriving in Zion
We eventually arrived at our hotel in Zion. Quick chance to stock up on some bath products (not really, these are ridiculous!)

A few pics from our hotel, as I know some people like to see these 🙂

Then managed to find a nice local place for a pizza and a beer to finish the day

Lucy has a post coming later today for our first day in Zion too with loads of nice pics so come back later.
