Durango and the Scenic Train Ride

Durango and the Scenic Train Ride

This post comes soon after Lucy’s about Mesa Verde national park so don’t miss that one too! We are only staying in Durango, Colorado for one day and we had booked to go on a scenic train ride up in to the Rockies to a place called Cascade Canyon. This is an old narrow gauge steam train which has a variety of different carriages – we opted for the first class carriage (I think I can charge this to work…

Canyon Lands National Park

Canyon Lands National Park

We’ve been staying in the town of Moab for a few days which is close by to two National Parks, Arches which we went to on our first day, and Canyon Lands which we went to yesterday. We’ve had a full day at each park, and then used our last day today to go back to Arches for a bit, but otherwise have a bit of a lazy day as we’ve been so busy so far and we’ve got tired…

Day 2 in Capitol Reef

Day 2 in Capitol Reef

This post is coming quite soon after Lucy’s one covering our trip to Capitol Reef and day 1 in the park, so don’t miss that one here. It’s definitely a lot colder here in Capitol Reef, and today was the first day of our whole trip I think where it wasn’t a clear blue sky and sun all day, so we felt the cold when we were out hiking. Cloudy and a bit windy still, but not too bad once…

Travel to and Day 1 at Bryce Canyon

Travel to and Day 1 at Bryce Canyon

Hi everyone, we moved on from Zion National Park on Tuesday to our next destination which is Bryce Canyon. We took the scenic drive route through Mount Carmel which had some great views, and a long 1 mile tunnel dug through the cliff. Stopped for a brief walk at the ‘Canyon Overlook Trail’ as we were leaving the NP and then drove on to Bryce Canyon from there. The scenic drive on the way to Bryce: Bryce Canyon Day 1…

Zion National Park – Day 2

Zion National Park – Day 2

We had another busy day hiking in Zion NP, this time we decided to tackle one of the steeper walks and it was particularly hard going. Not as many miles covered today as our first day, but a LOT steeper to get to the top. The walk took us up to ‘Scout Lookout’ which had great views down the valley. It was mostly an even path to get up there, but some sections were steep and zig-zagged back and forth….

The Road to Zion

The Road to Zion

We left Las Vegas on Friday (10th) to start our long road-trip round the national parks in the South West of the States. First stop is Zion National Park where we are staying for 4 nights, although we took a scenic route to get there to stop at various state parks and places to see. Passed through 3 States (Nevada, Arizona and Utah) to get here and lost an hour with a time zone change. Here’s a map of the…

We’ve Arrived in Las Vegas

We’ve Arrived in Las Vegas

Hi everyone, first blog post from our second trip today and we’ve arrived safely in Las Vegas. We’ve got a long 3 month trip planned starting here, then travelling round loads of the National Parks in the South West, before flying over to Hawaii for a while, then back to LA. hopefully there should be loads of nice pics, and a much more varied road trip than our 2 months in Florida we did in Oct/Nov. We landed in Las…

More Beach time at Cocoa Beach

More Beach time at Cocoa Beach

We drove over to Cocoa Beach this week which is on the East coast, about an hour away from where we are staying. The weather has definitely turned cooler now at the end of Nov, although it was still 20 degrees and lovely in the sun. But the very humid conditions have disappeared for now, and it’s much cooler at night time. I’m in my trousers instead of shorts today for the first time in months! It was still nice…

Major Mini Golf Update and Volcano Bay

Major Mini Golf Update and Volcano Bay

Hi everyone, Simon here, I’ve got a major update on the Mini Golf situations – I’ve pulled it back to 4-4 after a couple of solid games at our local ‘Congo Falls’ course. There were two 18 hole courses there, both very well themed with some good holes. Some pics below. We also went to Volcano Bay yesterday which is Universal’s water park. Had a full day there, managing to do loads of the slides and generally floating around in…

A busy week with visitors

A busy week with visitors

Sorry we’ve not posted many updates recently, we’ve had my mum and sister as guests for the last week so it’s been a very busy week cramming things in while they’re here. It’s been nice having them here and we’ve been back to Epcot and Magic Kingdom at the Disney parks with them, and to do lots of things Lucy and I hadn’t had a chance to do during our initial visits before they arrived. Shopping, sitting by the pool,…
