Faire du vélo et boire dans l’eau (Cycling and drinks in the water)

On our final day in Quebec City we decided to rent some bikes from the Old Town area and cycle along one of the city’s many cycle paths, following the river up to some nearby water falls we had wanted to visit. It took us around an hour to cycle to Montmorency Falls on a pretty hot afternoon, but it was a pretty flat route and a good way to get around.

The falls themselves were really impressive. We didn’t have to pay to get in either since we’d cycled there and they seemed to be only collecting fees at the gates for cars parking there. It was a busy place, you could walk along a board walk to get right near the base of the falls, or alternatively climb a lot of steps to get to a bridge at the top that went over the falls (you can see the steps in some of the pics), or if you paid for a ticket you could get a cable car up there instead.

Since we’d done a lot of walking the day before at the national park, and we had another cycle ride to do to get back to the rental place we decided against taking the many stairs to get up to the top, and settled on staying at the base of the falls to get some pictures and have a look around.

After a stop at the falls we got back on our bikes to head home but before we could set off, the seat on my bike snapped fully off the attachment as I sat down! I couldn’t have ridden it back to town like that, so we called the rental place who instead sent a large taxi to pick us and the bikes up to bring us back to town! It cut our ride short annoyingly, but they were very good about it and helpful, and only charged us for one bike in the end too.

You can see the snapped missing seat above!

Once we got back to town we went to one of the bars we’d wanted to check out, a really unusual pop-up bar for the summer where all the seating is outdoors, but the seats are in some shallow water! You sit there with your feet in the water on a hot summer’s day, enjoying the drinks and atmosphere down by the river.

It was a really cool place, very different to anywhere else we’ve been to on the trip. Decent drinks too and a very popular place. There were plenty of seats out of the water if you’d rather as well, so after a while we moved to some comfier sofas and dried off.

p.s. we didn’t include these in the earlier update from Quebec, so here’s a few pics from our Airbnb as well:

We’ve moved on from Quebec City now, back down in to northern USA in Vermont. There’ll be another update soon from our time here from Lucy before we flay back to the UK next week!
